Born and bred in Texas, Mike first gained a fascination with all things extreme weather when he experienced the power of a Category 3 Hurricane Alicia in 1983 as the eye wall passed over his childhood home. He has been enamored with weather ever since and in particular tornadoes. They are the most powerful storms on earth and yet they can go through a neighborhood and seemingly pick out one house and miss another.
He married his high school sweetheart Teresa 19 years ago and they have two beautiful girls, Katelyn and Kristen. Teresa is a Children’s Minister at their church and also enjoys tracking stroms with Mike when she has the available time. She may be America’s only storm tracking Children’s Minister.
Mike has been Program Director of one of the largest Christian music stations in the world, 94.9 KLTY, in Dallas/Fort Worth for over 10 years and in radio for 20 years.
God has given Mike a servant’s heart. He is a deacon at his church and enjoys serving the church body.
His heart for serving others spills over into storm chasing. While he enjoys seeing the power of the storm, he hates to see communities get ravaged. After years of asking God why he has this fascination with something that causes so much pain and destruction, He has shown Mike the good in being able to warn others of the impending storm, assist those that need it most and help restore those communities affected.
CERTIFICATIONS:
Mike is certified in NIMS/ICS through FEMA; TEEX certified in Wide Area Search; NASAR Search and Rescue Tech III certified and certified in First Aid/AED/CPR. Mike is also a certified commercial remote pilot with a small UAS rating with the FAA allowing him to do search & rescue and reconnaissance via drone.
God has a plan for everyone; it’s up to you to learn what that is by seeking Him first.
